"There are steps we can all take now to prevent the cognitive decline that experts have long believed to be unavoidable and irreversible. Dramatic reductions in the prevalence of dementia could be achieved if more people underwent genetic testing and initiated a preventive program long before any symptoms appeared.”

Who can benefit from the course?

1. You’re a patient: You’ve been recently diagnosed with dementia and been told there’s little you can do to prevent your inevitable decline.

2. You’re a helper: You're a caregiver for someone with dementia and want to do everything you can to help to slow its progression.

3. You’re overwhelmed: You’ve likely heard about the Bredesen approach, but the information and care is overwhelming.

4. You’re related: You’re genetically related to someone with dementia and want to proactively manage your health now.

Alzheimer’s is in my genes. How will this material help?

Genes can put us at risk for dementia, however they do not determine our fate. The diet and lifestyle changes taught in this course are based on the best current science to reduce your genetic risk. Those with ApoE 4 genetics can have up to a 1 in 2 chance of developing Alzheimer’s. Our goal is for you to have all the information available to keep you in the 50 percentile who never experiences cognitive decline.

I support someone with dementia, but I don’t have it. Should I take this course?

Our goal when we work with caregivers is that they adopt similar health changes. Caregivers are 2.5 times more likely to develop dementia because of the stress that comes with that role.

How much time will this take?

The course is made up of 11 modules, each with a series of 5-10 minute videos. The entire course is under eight hours, and you can complete it at your own pace. Plus, you have lifetime access to the material. As dementia care research and resources develop, we will continuously update this course.

Still improve the quality of life of those with dementia. I have the most confidence when a person is in an earlier stage of the disease progression and adheres to the recommendations as comprehensively as possible.

What if I can’t manage all the recommended measures?

At our Marama facility, we strictly adhere to the Bredesen protocol to maximize each patient’s success.

We do recognize, however, that following some, but not all, guidelines of the approach can still improve the quality of life of those with dementia. We have the most confidence when a person is in an earlier stage of the disease progression and adheres to the recommendations as comprehensively as possible.

How likely is it that this will work?

We see evidence of the success of our approach all the time. In a 2021 proof-of-concept trial with 25 participants aged 50 to 76, researchers found that 21 improved (84%), one showed no change (4%), and three declined (12%).

The report concluded that a larger, randomized controlled trial is warranted, and this follow-up study is already in the works. Click here to read more about the Bredesen protocol research.

How do I get into ketosis?

The Bredesen protocol calls for strict adherence to the KetoFLEX diet. This course helps you understand the diet, how to implement it and even includes menu planning ideas.

Working with a health coach is the best way to optimize one’s ability to reach ketosis. We can match you with a Bredesen trained health coach to help you manage your specific case.

HERE'S WHAT FAMILIES OF OUR MARAMA RESIDENTIAL HOME ARE SAYING:

I personally cannot wait to guide you over the next few weeks…

Using the Bredesen protocol, I’ve been a partner in supporting countless families dealing with the devastating diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. From the first time I saw a patient’s MoCA score improve from 2 to 7 by applying the Bredesen protocol, I realized this was my life’s purpose.

Alzheimer’s and dementia care chose me. Our Marama Experience facility in San Diego is the world’s only one fully implementing the Bredesen protocol for dementia patients. The need is so vast and will only continue to grow.

I believe deeply that this lifestyle approach to cognitive decline changes the trajectory of dementia. I have seen firsthand the benefits of these approaches and am determined that more people receive help.

My goal with this course is to support more families, reach more healthcare professionals and ultimately, to change the narrative that “there’s nothing you can do.”

There’s much we can do. I look forward to diving in, together.

Warmly,

Heather Sandison, ND
